How to treat your back at home

rubbing the back for pain

Lumbar pain in most people is associated with sciatica, although the reasons for its occurrence are quite diverse.

Such a symptom accompanies not only the defeat of the paravertebral structures, but also many diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and genitourinary system, as well as metabolic disorders and oncological processes.

Therefore, before using alternative methods, it is strongly recommended to consult a doctor and find out the cause of pain.

In addition, acute back pain does not always stop with the usual methods - pills or lotions. Sometimes surgery or therapeutic blockade is required.

Complex approach

If the back hurts in the lumbar region, the most common diagnosis is "osteochondrosis" or "intervertebral hernia". The main condition for successful treatment is the elimination of the cause of pain. Otherwise, medication or physiotherapy will be powerless and the disease will become chronic.

Treatment of the back and spine begins with a gentle regimen, which means the rejection of any physical activity. In severe pain, bed rest is recommended. To speed up recovery and get rid of discomfort, doctors advise you to buy an orthopedic pillow and mattress.

This will reduce the load on the spine, will prevent compression of nerve endings and muscle spasms. If it is not possible to buy special devices, then it is better to sleep on a mattress of medium hardness and choose a pillow of medium thickness.

Drug therapy prescribed by a doctor usually includes not only anti-inflammatory and analgesic, but also vitamin complexes. During the rehabilitation period, physiotherapy, remedial exercise, massage are provided. As an additional method you can use folk remedies, which must be agreed in advance with your doctor. With some diagnosis and the approval of a specialist, the treatment of the spine at home will be much more effective.

Folk recipes for back pain

You can eliminate the pain with the help of ordinary mustard plasters, which are available in almost every home. Due to the local reflex effect, they irritate the skin and increase blood flow. Due to the influx of blood, metabolic processes in the tissues are accelerated, oxygen transport is improved, pain and inflammation are reduced. Another important action of mustard plasters is to stimulate the synthesis of adrenaline and norepinephrine, which has a beneficial effect on the central nervous system.

Recipe number 1. In the water for mustard plasters add 50 ml of furacillin and a teaspoon of liquid honey. You can use a ready-made solution of furacillin (sold at the pharmacy) or dissolve 1 tablet in 50 ml of water. Immerse the prepared mustard plaster in the solution for a few seconds, then remove and apply to the affected area.

Hold the compress until a burning sensation appears, then remove and wipe the skin dry. Smear it with cream or oil, cover with plastic wrap and wrap with a warm towel.

Recipe number 2. Burdock leaves are another affordable home remedy for relieving back and lower back pain. Rinse a few fresh leaves, then stack them so that they are in contact with each other on the green and purple sides. Immerse this pile in boiling water and cook for 2-3 minutes, carefully remove it without disturbing their arrangement, and cool. Apply on the lower back, fixing with a bandage and a warm scarf.

What to do if "enters" from behind

Men are thought to be more susceptible to sciatica because they do physical work or sports, lift and carry heavy loads, drive for long periods of time and are often overweight. As a result, they often complain that they have "grabbed their backs" or "stuck" in the lumbar region.

Low back pain can overtake anywhere: at work, in the gym or at home. In this case, first aid measures will help:

  • find the most advantageous position in which the pain is felt the least, and stay in this position;
  • do not make sudden movements, it is recommended not to move at all;
  • take an analgesic or anti-inflammatory drug (diclofenac, ibuprofen);
  • apply anti-inflammatory ointment on the painful area;
  • if there is a woolen elastic belt, tie it around the waist, fixing the spine in a fixed position;
  • lie on your back, bend your knees and place a pillow made of a folded towel or blanket under them. In this position, the lumbar muscles relax as much as possible.

Following the recommendations described, the pain usually subsides in about half an hour. If the attack of burning pain occurs after a serious injury to the spine, it is mandatory to contact a traumatologist.

Medical assistance is also required in the following circumstances:

  • the victim is over 60 years old;
  • has cancer;
  • fever;
  • the attack is preceded by long-term treatment with hormonal drugs;
  • lower back pain bothers more than a month;
  • significantly reduced body weight, despite the lack of diet.

If there are no analgesics at home and you do not have the strength to prepare medicines according to folk recipes, you can try to anesthetize your back with burdock leaf. It is not necessary to scald with boiling water, to soak or boil, but simply to apply with a shiny side to the body. Secure the top with a bandage and wrap with a woolen scarf. Keep the compress for no more than 12 hours.

An equally simple recipe involves the use of valerian tincture if burdock is not found. In it it is necessary to moisten gauze or cotton cloth, which should then be placed on the lower back.

The next 2 recipes are a little harder to prepare: one will need black radish, and the second will need turpentine and red clay.

Recipe number 1. Grate the radishes and place on cheesecloth. Apply on the back, cover with cellophane and isolate the affected area of the back. Hold until strong heat appears.

Recipe number 2. Dilute 1 kg of clay with water, add to it 3 tablespoons of turpentine. You will get a cake-like table that is used as a compress.

If your lower back hurts, you can prepare a garlic elixir or rub. The medicinal mixture for internal use is prepared as follows: peel and cut the head of garlic in a blender or grater. Do the same with the lemon, without peeling it and scald with boiling water beforehand.

Pour lemon and garlic puree with a liter of warm water, leave for two days, then filter and pour into a glass jar. Drink 2 tablespoons after meals 3 times a day. The course of treatment is one month. Store the finished mixture in the refrigerator.

The lower back will stop hurting if you make compresses with garlic and lemon within 30-35 days. Recipe number 4. Pass the roots and leaves of horseradish through a meat grinder, then place the resulting "minced meat" in a linen bag. It is more convenient to do the procedure together, as it will be difficult to perform it yourself. Place a bag of horseradish on your waist and iron it with a preheated iron for at least three minutes. Then cover the compress on top with a warm scarf and lie down for 15-20 minutes. Then remove the bag. A bag of horseradish leaves can be used several times.
